Mission Ministries of Tomahawk Baptist Church

Doing mission work is a large part of our ministry here at Tomahawk.  Be believe that the Great Commision has called us, both as individuals and as a congregation, to minister to our local communities and to people all over our country and our world.  Below is a list of some of the mission ministires with which we participate.

Richmond Friends of the Homeless
:
 Prepare and serve a meal on the third Monday of each month in South Richmond through this ecumenical ministry

Samaritan's Purse
Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Ministry
 Distribute and collect shoeboxes for this ecumenical, international ministry each year during October and November
 Collection and Relay Center at the church each November

Chesterfield Christmas Mother:
Adopt 7 families each Christmas
Receive an offering of blankets, gloves, caps and scarves for the homeless in South Richmond each year at Christmas

Kingdom Builders: (a Middle District Mission Ministry)
Help with home repair and clean-up for those in our community unable to afford essential Maintenance

Habitat for Humanity:
Assist in home building for those who would otherwise be unable to afford a home and Mortgage

Summer Missions Trips:
Every year since 1987, the church has sent out at least one team to carry out a mission-ministry project both inside and outside of our community:
1987-2004:  Vacation Bible Schools and Church repair at Baring Baptist Church, Baring, Maine
1988:  Backyard Bible Clubs in Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina
1990:  Vacation Bible school and church repair in Berwick, Pennsylvania
1988-1992:  Home repair projects for the elderly in Chesterfield County
2004-present:  Worked with the Matthew House refugee ministry in Ft. Erie, Ontario,
doing sports camps and home repair
2007:  Vacation Bible School and other ministry projects in conjunction with Undivided Ministries, Inc. with the Suquamish Indian Tribes in Seattle, Washington
2008:  Worked with HopeTree Family Services, a Virginia Baptist Ministry
 
Children in Action (CIA) and Mission Friends:
Children's and preschool missions groups that both teach about mission ministries and allow the children to actively be involved in mission projects.

Partners in Christ Mission Emphasis and Offering
:

A single mission offering and emphasis to benefit the ministries of all our mission partners, including the Middle District, Virginia Baptists, The Cooperative Baptist Fellowship and our own Summer Missions Ministries.


We are affiliated with
:
The Middle District Baptist Association for the purpose of doing cooperative mission work in South Richmond, Chesterfield, Amelia and Powhatan.
The Baptist General Association of Virginia, for the purpose of doing cooperative mission work in the state of Virginia, and
The Cooperative Baptist Fellowship for the purpose of doing cooperative global mission work.
