Music Notes ~ October 2008

By Mary Mann

Our new church year is off to a great start.  All of our choirs: children, youth, adult, and hanbells are busy learning and having fun together.  Don't forget—if you would like to participate in any of our music ministries—just come to rehearsal one night and check it out.

Our children's choirs are hard at work preparing for Children's Sunday, October 19.  What a special day in the life of our church.  The children lead worship with prayers, scripture readings, songs, and other special elements that remind the congregation what a blessing our children are to the church family.  It is important for the adults to worship through the eyes and hearts of children when we are given the opportunity.  Remember that Jesus tells us that we must come to him with faith like a child if we want to enter into the Kingdom of Heaven.  Mark this date on your calendars and worship with us that morning.

The Sanctuary Choir is preparing for Thanksgiving and Christmas already!  Believe it or not, it is that time of year.  The Sunday before Thanksgiving we will sing favorite hymns and listen to special anthems as we prepare for our national day of thanks.  The choir has begun working on the 2008 Christmas cantata entitled Start at the Manger.  This cantata features some well-known Christmas favorites, both old and new, set to a narration of the Christmas story, simple and ever-true, as found in the gospels.  We will present the cantata on Sunday, December 15, during the 11:00 worship hour.

Look forward to special music from all of our choirs throughout the year.  Music is an important part of our worship experience.  I believe that the language of music can touch us deeply.  God is glorified through the praise we offer in song!
